Paleo Peppermint Hot Chocolate

This paleo peppermint hot chocolate (or vegan peppermint hot chocolate) is easy and quick, luxuriously chocolatey and perfectly minty. It is full of healthy ingredients. Cheers to that!

Servings2 people

Ingredients

  • 2 (or 1 *see note)  13.5- ounce cans of full-fat coconut milk (one refrigerated to be used for coconut cream, if desired, but optional)
  • 1/3 cup almond milk (HW: I actually do well with lactose free milk, my current favorite is Fairlife Whole (the brain needs fat! )  Fairlife has much less sugar.
  • 2 ounces 100% dark chocolate , like 100% cacao unsweetened Ghiradhelli chocolate
  • 2 tbsp about 2-3 tablespoons pure maple syrup , to taste (using less if you don't use unsweetened chocolate, or a bit more if you prefer a sweeter cocoa)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon to a few drops peppermint extract , to taste (HW; I use 1 drop of food grade peppermint essential oil -2 drops max. daily)
  • 1 teaspoon a dash of chili powder , to garnish, if desired

Instructions

  • Combine coconut milk, almond milk, and chocolate in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk until smooth, as the chocolate melts, then add 2 tablespoons maple syrup, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract.
  • Taste and add maple syrup to reach desired sweetness and additional peppermint extract to taste. Continue cooking until mixture reaches a near boil, then remove from heat and pour into serving mugs.
  • Top with coconut cream: refrigerate a can of full-fat coconut milk for at least an hour then remove from fridge and invert. Open can and pour off clear coconut water, then scoop out remaining coconut "cream" into a small bowl. Whisk until smooth. Spoon a dollop of whisked coconut cream onto mugs of hot chocolate and sprinkle with a dash of chili powder, if desired. Enjoy!

One Day Fat Flush Miracle Juice

Ann Louise Gittlman's “Miracle Juice.” Every ingredient has been specially chosen to stave off hunger, balance your blood sugar, rev up your metabolism, and keep you feeling fit, energized, and trim.Ingredients:
The Almighty Cranberry

2 quarts Cranberry Water (8 ounces unsweetened cranberry juice to 56 ounces purified water)
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground ginger
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¾ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
Stevia Plus to taste (2 packets seems ideal)
Directions:
• Bring Cranberry Water to a boil; reduce heat to low.
• Place cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg into a tea ball; add to the Cranberry Water.
• Simmer 15 to 20 minutes; cool to room temperature.
• Stir in the orange and lemon juices. Add Stevia Plus at this time, if desired.
2. Upon rising and before bed, take 1 serving of a colon-caring supplement chosen from the following:
• Cold Milled Flax seeds or Chia Seeds (2 to 3 tablespoons mixed in 10 to 12 ounces of water or 8 ounces Miracle Juice)
• Super-GI Cleanse (3 capsules, taken with 10 to 12 ounces of water or 8 ounces Miracle Juice)
3. Alternate drinking one cup (8 ounces) of filtered water and one cup (8 ounce) of Miracle Juice during the day. Drink at least 72 ounces of filtered water throughout the day, in addition to the Miracle Juice. Make sure you drink at least a cup of liquid—either the Miracle Juice or water—every hour from waking to sleeping.
4. Engage in only light exercise—either a 20 minute walk or 10 minutes on a rebounder (mini-trampoline).
What to Avoid While Fasting
As far as vitamins are concerned, this is one day when you should NOT take dietary supplements. You want to give your digestive track a complete rest when it comes to digestion—whether that be foods or vitamins and minerals. There will be plenty of time to re-integrate your dietary supplement regimen the day after when you begin to eat real foods—like easily digestible and steamed veggies, stews, and soups to further assist the cleansing process with water-based dishes. Light proteins such as poultry and deep sea fish would be ideal, too.
I predict that fasting may become one of your favorite seasonal detox rituals just as it is mine.  Let’s fast one day at a time -just for the health of it!
*Although fasting is an excellent therapy for better health for most people, there are some who should not fast. You should not fast if you have cardiac arrhythmia, type I diabetes, congestive heart failure, ulcers, liver disease, or kidney disease or if you are struggling with anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. You should not fast before or after surgery as it might compromise your ability to heal.Email

Christmas Morning Punch

Ingredients:
2 cups orange juice
2 cups cranberry juice
1 cup pineapple juice
1 cup ginger ale (HW_ homemade version on this blog under drinks label)
Directions:
Combine ingredients in a pitcher. Serve cold

Homemade Ginger Ale

How to Make Ginger Ale 1You begin by making a ginger syrup, which can be stored in the refrigerator for a few weeks. Just add the syrup to chilled sparkling water or club soda when you’re thirsting for fresh ginger ale. It’s easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

Make ginger syrup

Juice lemons, reserving one thick slice from the middle. Add lemon juice, lemon slice, chopped ginger, sugar, and water to a pot. Stir to combine. Bring mixture to a boil, then decrease heat to a simmer. Simmer gently for 15 minutes. Using a strainer or cheesecloth to catch solids, pour liquid mixture into a large glass measuring cup. (Compost solids or save ginger for other uses.) Make note of the amount of liquid you have. Return liquid to pot and continue simmering for 20-25 minutes, or until liquid has been reduced by half. Allow syrup to cool and transfer to a glass jar with a lid. Refrigerate until ready to mix drinks.

The Apple Pie Detox Recipe:
2 tablespoons Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar (with the mother)
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 apple (sometimes I use a whole apple if I’m hungry)
1 teaspoon cinnamon (which also helps with blood sugar & cholesterol)
10 drops of vanilla stevia (regular stevia works as well)
Blend it up in your favorite blender (hello Vitamix, I love you!), and enjoy!
*To keep the cinnamon from settling, be sure to swirl the drink every little bit to keep it mixed in with every sip.

Ginger, Lime & Mint Flavored Sparkling Water

Ginger. When we think of this aromatic and spicy rhizome, Asian cuisine comes to mind immediately.
Used in many Asian dishes, it imparts fantastic flavor. Ginger has been used for thousands of years and is indigenous to China. It has long been used in herbal medicine for its anti-inflammatory effects, its relief of nausea and gastrointestinal disturbance, and its immune-boosting potential. It is also being studied as a means of preventing colorectal and ovarian cancer.

CRANWATER. We all know water is a diuretic and great for the entire body, but combined with cranberry juice, it’s a fantastic fat and water flushing drink. Combine 5-6 ounces of water and 8 ounces of 100% cranberry juice. Mix together and drink throughout the day. Make sure it is 100% cranberry juice with nothing else added. The cranberry juice contains high levels of organic acids, and when consumed on a regular basis may help your body actually dissolve fatty deposits.
GRAPEFRUIT JUICE. Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice is one of the best things for your body. Grapefruits contain high amounts of Vitamin C, which helps your body to detoxify naturally. This drink helps your liver do the job it was meant to do – detoxify and metabolize your body!
GREEN TEA. Green tea is one of the most famous drinks to flush the fat away. Like cranberry juice, green tea is extremely high in antioxidants. It is known for helping many dieters lose fat quicker than usual when consumed 2-3 times a day. Green tea not only flushes away the fat, but also is packed with other helpful benefits for your body.
WATER. Yes, we know. What a shock! Plain old water! But, truly your body needs plenty of water to facilitate the breakdown of fat in your body. Drinking water will help flush out toxins and keep you energized so that your body to perform at it’s best. Keep in mind, drinking tons of water is not the answer to losing weight. You will still need to take in a  proper diet and facilitate an appropriate exercise regime. Drinking water will keep your body clean and allow all of your organs to work properly instead of working overtime to keep your body going.
These 5 drinks won’t work miracles alone, but are a great start and will help increase the benefits of a healthy diet and cardio regimen. For maximum health benefits, it is important to also implement an appropriate fitness program with a nutritious diet.
